Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium is additional funding from government allocated to support specific students. Currently the government gives pupil premium funding for:
- Students from low-income families who are known to be eligible for free school meals or who have claimed free schools meals in the last six years
- Students who have been looked after continuously for more than six months
- Students of service families
Nationally, the statistics show that students who fall into these categories do less well than their peers in external exams. The aim of this money is to try to close that attainment gap.
Our rationale for utilising pupil premium funding
Devon Studio School believes that the most effective way to improve learner outcomes is through high quality specialist teaching, personalised support and setting high expectations of our students and staff.
We achieve this through:
- Setting challenging targets and ensuring that students reach and exceed these targets
- Developing outstanding teaching and learning through effective professional development for teachers and robust performance management
- Providing smaller than average class sizes to ensure that all students make outstanding academic progress
- Focused 1:1 support for key targeted students to ensure that they make progress in line with other students in the school
- Providing personalised support through personal coaching
- Providing additional KS4 intervention during enrichment to ensure underachievement is eliminated in core subjects
- Providing additional targeted classes for students in the lead up to key examinations.
As a school we are committed to ensuring the very best learning opportunities for all students. We very carefully track the progress of children throughout the school. This helps us to ensure that all children are making good progress and are achieving their full potential.
